Jumping Rope: 700 calories per hour

Updated: Dec 28, 2020

When I was a kid, I lived in Holland and one of the holidays celebrated there is kid's week. It really was quite fabulous. One day at school, we would get to wear fancy hats we had decorated. Another day, the kids would do fun jokes on the teachers, like cut the principle's tie. It was a really big deal. However, the very best day was the day the professional jump ropers came to perform at our school. You haven't experienced the epitome of coolness unless you witnessed a team of professional jump ropers doing the most amazing stunts, among multiple flying jump ropes, at only six-or-seven years of age. Over the top coolness.

I've always been quite fascinated with jump rope since I was a kid, but did you know that #jumping rope burns more calories than biking, swimming, and even #running? Jumping rope can burn up to 700 calories per hour and is a great way to kick-start your digestive system and get your body to burn more calories throughout the course of the day. Jumping rope is so much more than just super cool.

Develops Overall Muscle Strength

An area difficult to challenge, but really rewarding when you do, is your upper back. Jumping rope not only gets your heart pumping, but really helps sculpt your shoulders, back, and arms. One of the biggest tricks to a great sculpted body is challenging it with a variety of exercises. Your muscles will be challenged by the new demands and you'll spark life into muscles which may not have received as much demand in prior workouts.

Improves Mental Clarity

Boxers utilize jump rope because it improves their hand-eye coordination, but we all need this skill, particularly as we age. Jumping rope demands attention from both sides of your brain. If you are someone who can lose focus at times, or maybe feels overwhelmed often, jumping rope can help train your brain to focus on the present and help you see things more clearly in all aspects of your day-to-day life.

Mood Enhancer

Natural endorphins, which allow us to feel our best, are released when we jump rope. You may know this as the "runner's high." Our libido and sex drive are also increased from these natural endorphins. If you are feeling anxiety, fatigue, or even depression, grab yourself a rope and challenge yourself. This activity is so much more than a child's game.

Reduces Belly Fat

This may be enough motivation right here. Jumping rope is one of the best ways to avoid fat redistributing around the abdomen. It is an excellent way to keep your physique lean and your waistline slim. Jumping rope is an excellent choice for any workout routine. It may take a little time to master, but once you do, you'll be the epitome of coolness. In just a few weeks you'll begin to see changes in your body. I've heard people say jumping rope is the fountain of youth.

I challenge you to get yourself a rope and share with me on Instagram (doctorpennylane) your rope workouts!
